Sometimes these are only svga lockups and the rest of the machine is still usable via a remote console (e.g. a serial tty or a telnet session). If it is only the svga that has locked up you will still be able to debug your app using a remote gdb session. If your machine is completely dead using a serial tty to 'refine' your search (binary chop) will help. You could even use a printer for this if you don't mind wasting paper. As a last resort you could try writing the info synchronously to a hard disc file and then look at it after you've rebooted.
