Well, you have few choices then: 1. You could add /usr/local/lib to your /etc/ld.so.conf and then run ldconfig so that gcc will find the libraries in /usr/local/lib. 2. You could install the Debian package for svgalib which sets everything up for you. (apt-get install svgalibg1 svgalibg1-dev) 3.
